This is commonly a Mazda SKYACTIV GDI Carbon Buildup Problem. Mazda SKYACTIV gasoline direct‑injection engines can develop carbon buildup on intake valves and the intake manifold, causing rough idle, loss of power, and reduced fuel economy as the engine ages.

What needs to be repaired or replaced?

For severe intake valve carbon buildup, we perform an intake valve cleaning service using specialized abrasive blasting equipment to remove the carbon deposits.

For mild carbon buildup, we use chemical cleaners and high-quality fuel additives to help reduce carbon buildup between major carbon cleanings.

In some cases, cleaning the crankcase ventilation system and installing an updated PCV valve, cleaning the intake manifold carbon buildup, or installing new spark plugs will also be required.
