There is no safe substitute for proper brake fluid; you should not use power steering fluid, Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF), engine oil, or household products, because they will quickly destroy seals and can cause immediate brake failure. In a true emergency, the only “safe” action is not to drive the vehicle and to have it towed to a repair shop. Improvising a fluid almost always makes the repair more expensive and the situation far more dangerous.
